And Then There Were Three

A pregnancy photo shoot

Shriti and Naresh are expecting their first child in March. They wanted me to take some pictures to document their pregnancy. We wanted to go to a park to take these pictures but, Austin’s erratic winter weather put damper on our plans and we had to postpone few times.

Eventually, we decided on a day even though the weather forecast looked bleak. For the photo shoot we planned to take a few pictures in my backyard, then some in my home studio, and eventually in a park near our house.

For the backyard shoot, I used my Nikon 85mm 1.8g because I wanted some background compression, as well as nice bokeh to eliminate distraction.

Taken in the backyard. I love the background compression and bokeh rendered by the 85mm lens.

Quarter CTO gel on the main light, and half CTB gel on the rim light produces subtle but pleasing color combination.

It is always easy when the model poses naturally.

Finally, the sun came out in the evening, so we headed to the park near our house. Although it was evening, there was still plenty of light around that required me to use high speed sync. Luckily, the combination of a fast prime lens, Phottix Odin and LumoPro LP180R allowed me to use high speed sync to get a beautiful bokeh.

No need for an extra rim light, the sun is acting as one!

Picture 7

I really like the expression in this pictures, but there was a softbox in the picture. Had to do bit of editing to get rid of the softbox, but it was worth the extra effort.
